Date:  09-24-2010

Guide offers step-by-step instruction to ease process of reentry
John Jay College of Criminal Justice produced a guide for formerly incarcerated persons who want to go to college. The guide covers topics such as how to obtain required documents, and creating a resume. It also delivers a crash course on the internet.

One of the most important section of the guide deals with how to find funding for education. Vocational training and certificate programs are also included, as many reentering citizens might prefer these venues rather than college. The guide discusses how to speak about a conviction to a school admission officer, and provides answers to questions on eligibility. The guide anticipates what someone coming out of prison might need to help them acquire post-secondary schooling, and lays the answers out in front of them in a form a 64-page guide.
