JBS International, Inc. and Georgetown University National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health produced “Trauma Informed Care: Perspectives and Resources,” a toolkit that provides valuable information to better understand the impact that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have on juveniles, sometimes leading young people to become involved in the juvenile system.
A recent Reclaiming Futures blog explains ACEs:
"The term ACEs refers to childhood abuse, neglect, and general household dysfunction that negatively affects a child’s development. To improve the treatment of young people impacted by ACEs in the juvenile justice system, there is an ongoing effort to increase knowledge of trauma-informed care and how it can improve systems in health, justice and education."
The Toolkit is divided into eight modules, with each module comprised of a video interview, an issue brief, and a list of resources.
The topics of the eight segments are:
Understanding the Impact of Trauma
Trauma-Informed Child-Serving Systems
Creating Trauma-Informed Provider Organizations
Evidence-Based Treatments Addressing Trauma
Public Health Approach and Cost-Benefits of Trauma-Informed Care
Youth and Family Perspectives on Trauma-Informed Care
One Year Later
What’s Next? The New Frontier of Research and Practice in Trauma-Informed Care
