Reentry Central Update: Connecticut Cold Case Murder Playing Cards Do the Trick
Date:  02-10-2011

Nine of Diamonds provided an ace lead
On November 22, 2010 Reentry Central published an article about a novel approach officials were using to solve cold cases. When the Connecticut Department of Corrections announced that they were distributing free playing cards with the photos of victims of unsolved murders to inmates, skeptics scoffed. Jokes about hold ‘em poker abounded. But the cards played a crucial role in solving the murder of a 19 year-old shot to death on the dance floor of a social club in 2006.

Apparently an inmate in one of Connecticut’s correctional facilities realized that he had information about the victim on the Nine of Diamonds, Shaun Dudley. When the inmate relayed the information to authorities, Quan Morgan, who was already being held for another homicide that took place in 2009, was arrested by Hartford, CT police. Other police departments across the state are hoping that they will also benefit by this creative approach in apprehending murderers.
