A July 12 webinar sponsored by The National Resource Center on Justice-Involved Women (NRCJIW), the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the National Institute of Corrections focused on best practices when working with, and treating, female prisoners. Traditionally the criminal justice system has been geared toward men, but in recent years, correction officials have come to realize that when establishing programs and regulations, one gender does not fit all.
The webinar addresses topics that delve into how women with criminal histories are different from their male counterparts, and offers evidence-based data for implementing best practices. The webinar is divided into six sections:
Women in the Criminal Justice System
“What Works” in Corrections
The Gender-Responsive Movement
Research on Women in the Correctional System
